An Improved Alternative to Bicycles
Bicycles can be convenient for leisurely rides, but as daily transport they have drawbacks: they do not protect from rain, wind, and do not allow riding on highways. The French company Cixi is working on a three-wheeled vehicle, the Vigoz, which combines pedal drive with electric assistance, making it suitable for public roads.
Speed Capabilities and Classification
The Vigoz resembles small city cars like the Mobilize Duo, Citroen Ami, Fiat Topolino, and Microlino, but is significantly faster. With a top speed of 120 km/h, it belongs to the L5 category, allowing it to travel on all public roads and highways in France and, depending on local regulations, in other markets.
Innovative Drive System
The basis of the tricycle is the chainless PERS pedal system, which allows the driver to influence acceleration or braking with their feet in a more natural way. The pedal resistance can be adjusted according to user preference—from light effort to more intense training.
An electric motor assists in movement, and a 22 kWh battery located under the floor provides a range of about 160 km. Intensive use of regenerative braking and active pedaling can increase this figure. A full charge from a standard outlet takes approximately 6 hours.
Compact Design with Smart Solutions
The Vigoz has two wheels at the front and one at the rear, with an active tilting mechanism for improved handling. The closed body ensures aerodynamics and protection from the weather, and is equipped with LED lighting, windshield wipers, and two side doors. At the rear, there is an open cargo space with straps for small loads.
Interior and Safety
The cabin has space for the driver and one passenger. Both seats are equipped with three-point seat belts, and the rear seat has Isofix anchors for a child seat. Instead of a steering wheel, the Vigoz uses bicycle-style handlebars with integrated brakes.
Durability and Updates
According to the manufacturer, the Vigoz is designed to last at least 15 years before disposal. This is ensured by a robust chassis, replaceable body panels, availability of components for repair, and even the possibility of wireless updates.
Subscription Model
The Vigoz is not yet available for purchase. Cixi must create a working prototype with a series design before starting production in France. The model will be offered only on a subscription basis, and prices will be set after clarifying production costs.
This project could become an important step in the development of eco-friendly transport, combining the advantages of a bicycle and a car. The subscription-based approach could also make such transport more accessible to a wide range of users, especially in urban environments.
