Hypercar SSC Tuatara Set a New Speed Record for Road Cars

As is known, today the fastest road car is considered to be the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport (although this is just a myth, in reality, it’s the Koenigsegg). But now the Bugatti company will have something to think about and work on—the American hypercar SSC Tuatara has set a new speed record.

Last year, at the Kennedy Space Center test track in Florida, the hypercar reached 484.53 km/h in one direction and “intergalactic” 532.93 km/h in the other. According to the Guinness World Records rules, the arithmetic mean is taken, so the officially registered figure was 508.73 km/h. BUT! After the official video from the tests appeared, it turned out that the recording did not match the claimed results, which is why the title of record-holder returned to the Swedish hypercar Koenigsegg Agera RS, which in 2017 accelerated to 446.97 km/h.

As for the new record, this time the races were held at the Johnny Bohmer Proving Grounds test track in Florida. There, the car managed to accelerate to 450.1 km/h in the north direction and to 460.4 km/h in the south. Thus, the SSC Tuatara reclaims its status as the record holder: the average speed for the tests was 455.3 km/h (8 km/h faster than the Koenigsegg).

Recall, the SSC Tuatara is equipped with a 5.9-liter twin-turbo engine that develops 1369 hp (1774 hp on E85 racing fuel). The price of such a toy is $1.3 million. More precisely, from 1.3 million.
