Chevrolet Bolt EV Returns with Updates
The popular Chevrolet Bolt EV electric car is preparing to return to the market for the 2027 model year. The manufacturer promises that the updated version will be “better than ever.” Although a full presentation is expected later this year, detailed teasers have already emerged, showcasing a significant redesign, but not a complete platform change.
The previous version of the Bolt EV was discontinued in 2023, but General Motors decided to revive the model. The new version has received an updated front end with ribbon LED headlights, revised rear lights, and an NACS port for charging at Tesla Supercharger stations.
Technical Features
Contrary to initial assumptions, the new Bolt EV will likely not transition to the Ultium platform and will instead remain on a modified version of the previous BEV2 architecture. To reduce costs, a lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery may be used.
Production of the new model is planned at the factory in Kansas City, whereas previous versions were manufactured in Michigan. The price is expected to be somewhat higher than the previous model, which started at $28,795.
The return of the Bolt EV comes amid growing competition in the affordable electric vehicle market. With its updated design and improved technological base, the model could find new fans, especially among those looking for an inexpensive yet practical electric car for urban use. The success of the Bolt EV could be an important step for Chevrolet in the fight for leadership in the segment of affordable electric vehicle technology.
