GMC Appears to Be Developing a Supercharged Full-Size Yukon-V SUV

Powerful Cadillac Engine to Appear in New GMC Yukon

The next generation of the full-size GMC Yukon SUV for the 2027 model year will receive a powerful supercharged gasoline engine as an option, previously exclusive to the luxury Cadillac Escalade-V.

Key expected innovations for the Yukon:

Available Alternative to the Powerful Escalade-V

The Cadillac Escalade-V with its supercharged 6.2-liter V8 is a true beast, but its price starts at $168,000, making it a very expensive pleasure. Fortunately, information is emerging about a more affordable version from GMC.

According to data found in VIN documentation submitted to regulatory agencies, the 2027 Yukon will have four engine options. Among them will be the familiar 5.3- and 6.2-liter naturally aspirated V8s, as well as the excellent 3.0-liter turbo-diesel inline-six engine. The main news will be the appearance of the supercharged 6.2-liter LT4 V8 engine, which previously belonged exclusively to the Cadillac model line.

Expected Availability and Pricing

More details are expected to become known in the coming months, but the engine will likely be an option for the most expensive Denali Ultimate trims and offered exclusively with all-wheel drive. For comparison, the price of the current Yukon Denali with a naturally aspirated V8 starts at $103,900.

Power for Off-Road

There is also speculation that this engine could be offered for the off-road AT4 Ultimate versions. This would create an interesting combination, as such a model would target a different audience than the Cadillac Escalade-V.

While both vehicles are large and luxurious, the AT4 is equipped with an engine skid plate and 20-inch wheels shod in all-terrain tires. Additionally, buyers get an air suspension that can be raised to provide an extra 51 mm of ground clearance for off-road driving.

The appearance of such an engine in the GMC lineup could significantly change the balance of power in the market for large premium SUVs. It provides customers seeking high performance with an alternative to significantly more expensive luxury models, while still offering the possibility of obtaining advanced off-road attributes in the AT4 version. Such an expansion of the offering allows the brand to reach a wider range of buyers who value both comfort and space, as well as power.
