Get Ready for Speed: Sequel to ‘Days of Thunder’ Already in Development

Sequel to ‘Days of Thunder’ After 35 Years

Thirty-five years after the release of the original film ‘Days of Thunder’, work on a sequel has been officially announced. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer confirmed that he is working on the project with Tom Cruise. It is likely that Cruise will again play the role of Cole Trickle, but now as a more experienced racer.

The original 1990 film told the story of a young and troubled racer taken under the wing of Harry Hogge (Robert Duvall). The film also starred Nicole Kidman, Randy Quaid, and other stars. Although many years have passed, the success of ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ proved that a sequel to a classic can be successful.

“We’ll put together something very exciting for the audience once we get it all put together,” Bruckheimer stated.

What to Expect from the Sequel?

Plot details have not yet been disclosed, but Bruckheimer hinted that new technologies will make the film special. It is expected that Cruise may transition into a mentor role, similar to Duvall’s character in the first film.

The original film received mixed reviews from critics but was a commercial success. Its box office earnings have grown significantly over the years since release, which may indicate the film’s cult status among fans.

The world of motorsports has changed significantly over the past decades, and these changes could form the basis for a new story. At the same time, fans should be prepared that the film may use familiar plot moves but with a modern approach to visual effects and character development.
