Updated Toyota GR Corolla 2025: What Has Changed?
In the US, if you’re looking for a new all-wheel-drive car with a manual transmission, the choice is limited to the GR Corolla and Subaru WRX models. The latter is no longer offered in the STI version, so the GR Corolla remains the primary option for enthusiasts. In 2025, the model was updated: it received a new design, additional power, and an option for an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Despite all the advantages, the GR Corolla could not surpass the smaller GR Yaris in terms of driving enjoyment. However, it remains one of the best hot hatches on the market.
Technical Specifications
Design and Interior
The updated GR Corolla received a new front bumper and grille, giving it a more aggressive look. Soft-touch materials appeared in the interior, but the multimedia system remained the old one — an 8-inch screen with basic functionality. The seats are high, and the steering wheel is positioned low, which does not add comfort.
Driving Qualities
The three-cylinder engine remains very fun, with a good sound and additional power. The manual transmission is faster than the automatic, and the all-wheel-drive system allows for easy control of the car on various surfaces. However, the lack of adaptive dampers and mediocre steering are drawbacks.
Although the GR Corolla remains a great car, it could not surpass the GR Yaris in terms of driving thrill. For those looking for a more balanced option, it will be an excellent choice, but the smaller model remains the leader in the GR series.
