GWM Receives Its Own Electric Vehicle Support Program in the UK

Electric Car Discounts in the UK

The UK government has introduced a new electric vehicle support program designed to make them more affordable for buyers. The total budget of the program is £650 million, with grants for buyers reaching up to £1,500 or £3,750. However, the full list of vehicles qualifying for the incentives has not yet been published, creating uncertainty for manufacturers.

The company GWM, which sells the Ora 03 model in Britain, decided not to wait for the government’s official decisions and has already introduced its own discounts. The price of all Ora 03 versions has been reduced by £3,750 thanks to a so-called “Green Grant”. For example, the base Ora 03 Pure now costs £21,245 instead of £24,995. This model is equipped with a 48 kWh battery and has a range of 193 miles.

The mid-range Ora 03 Pro with a 63 kWh battery and a range of 260 miles is now available for £25,245. The top-tier GT trim offers additional options such as massage seats, ventilation, and a panoramic roof for £29,245.

“Qualifying for the government grant can be difficult for many manufacturers, as it depends on the environmental friendliness of the manufacturer country’s energy grid and the origin of the batteries,” sources report.

It is expected that vehicles manufactured in Asia will not receive benefits, which could become a problem for brands like GWM but will give an advantage to European manufacturers in the competition with rivals.

These changes are happening against the backdrop of a general trend of electric vehicles becoming cheaper. For example, the Chinese company Leapmotor also recently announced a £3,750 discount on its T03 model. However, the new rules could significantly impact the market, shifting the balance of power between manufacturers from different regions.
