Chaos at Jaguar Land Rover: Cybercriminals Paralyze Production and Information Systems

Cyberattack on Jaguar Land Rover

Jaguar Land Rover has confirmed the fact of a cyberattack in its report to the stock exchange in India. This incident has led to serious disruptions in the work of production and the brand’s retail operations.

Cyberattacks can paralyze not only individual devices but entire companies. This week, Jaguar Land Rover became a victim of such an attack, which forced it to shut down systems and caused significant disruptions in production and sales.

Incident Details

Reports of the incident appeared in a report to the stock exchange in Mumbai on Monday evening, where the automaker confirmed a serious impact on its operations.

Jaguar Land Rover did not provide detailed information about the nature of the attack, but, as the BBC reports, employees at the plant in Halewood, England, were ordered to stay home and not come to work while the issue was being resolved.

We immediately took measures to mitigate the consequences by proactively shutting down our systems. We are now working to restore global applications in a controlled manner.

The company also emphasized that there is currently no evidence of customer data theft, although retail and production activities have suffered serious disruptions.

A Challenging Period for the Brand

The attack occurred at a very unfortunate time for the British brand. This year has already proven difficult due to the discontinuation of Jaguar car production and criticism of their advertising campaign at the end of 2024. Donald Trump’s return to the US presidency has also complicated the situation for the company.

Following Trump’s announcement of a 25 percent tariff on imported cars and parts on April 2, Jaguar Land Rover confirmed the suspension of new car deliveries to the US for a month. This gave the company time to develop medium- and long-term plans.

North America remains a key market for the automaker, accounting for about a quarter of the 430,000 cars sold between March 2023 and March 2024. Any prolonged disruptions in supply chains or production could put additional pressure on a company already going through a difficult period.

This cyberattack once again reminds us of the importance of cybersecurity in the automotive industry, especially for global manufacturers whose operations depend on digital systems. The impact on production and logistics could have long-term consequences for the company’s market position, especially in the context of existing geopolitical and economic challenges.
