Hemi Returns, but Ram Continues to Develop Electrification

Ram Postpones the Launch of Electric Pickups

The Ram company continues to work on electrified pickups, despite bringing back the Hemi V8 engine in 2026. However, the launch of two key models—the Ramcharger and REV—is being delayed again due to low demand for electric pickups. Ram’s CEO Tim Kuniskis believes that the Ramcharger will become a revolutionary model that competitors will follow.

We have the luxury of time and the advantage of being a latecomer. Ford, General Motors, and Tesla have already released their electric pickups, but they are not in high demand.

Why Are the Delays Happening?

The Ram 1500 REV was introduced in 2023 with plans for a launch in 2024, but then it was postponed to 2026. Now, information has emerged that the model may not appear until the summer of 2027. The Ramcharger, which was supposed to be a hybrid with a V6 engine, is also being delayed—it is now expected at the beginning of next year.

Kuniskis explained that the company made a conscious business choice because the electric vehicle market is developing more slowly than expected. At the same time, he is confident that the Ramcharger, with its combination of an electric drive and a generator based on an internal combustion engine, will become a successful solution. The model promises a range of up to 1100 km, high power, and the ability to tow up to 6.3 tons.

Interestingly, Ford has already begun exploring a similar concept, which indicates the potential of the Ramcharger. However, it remains to be seen whether Ram’s optimistic forecasts will be justified in a world where traditional fuel-powered pickups continue to dominate.
