Hatchbacks and Sedans Regain Ground: Kia Challenges Crossover Dominance

Kia Plans to Expand Its Range of Hatchbacks, Sedans, and Station Wagons

In a world dominated by crossovers and SUVs, Kia has not forgotten those who prefer classic body styles. The company plans to introduce more hatchbacks, sedans, and station wagons, especially in the European market where demand for such models remains high. This is a fresh decision against the backdrop of the general trend towards increasing SUVs.

One of the first new models will be the electric EV4, which will be available in two variants — a hatchback and a sedan. However, only the sedan will come to the US. Kia is also preparing to launch the K4 Hatchback, which, despite its unusual design, could significantly expand the model’s audience.

Europe Remains a Key Market

In an interview with Autocar, Kia Vice President Ted Lee noted that hatchbacks in Europe have great potential, but competition is growing, especially from Chinese brands. He emphasized that the company must strengthen its advantages in the market.

We must strengthen Kia’s advantages in the market

The K4 Hatchback will go on sale in the US by the end of the year. Its price is expected to be slightly lower than that of the sedan, which starts at $21,990.

In recent years, automakers have been actively focused on SUVs, but Kia demonstrates that diversity in body styles still has its adherents. This is especially noticeable in Europe, where compact and practical models have traditionally been popular. At the same time, the emergence of new players in the market, particularly from China, is making the fight for the customer even more intense.
