Honda introduced a special series of the 2027 Prelude worth $39,000, which is currently available exclusively in Japan

Honda introduced a special version of the 2027 Prelude Limited Edition for Japan

Honda decided to attract the attention of Japanese buyers to the Prelude model by introducing a limited edition for 2027. The main feature of the new model is a deep red body color and corresponding interior trim. Technically, the car remains unchanged — the hybrid coupe received only a brighter exterior appearance.

The Prelude entered the Japanese market in September 2025, and the first special version received the Moonlit Pearl color with a black roof, mirrors, and wheels. Less than a year later, the 2027 version with a more prominent design appeared.

Design and trim

The body received the Premium Crystal Garnet Metallic color, which was not previously offered for the Prelude. It is complemented by a color-matched radiator grille, red accents on the bumpers instead of the standard blue ones, and 19-inch cast alloy wheels in Machined Black Clear finish with red Brembo brake calipers.

The interior also received special trim: Bordeaux-colored inserts on the front seats, center console, and dashboard. The rest of the upholstery is made of black leather with contrasting Bordeaux stitching. The Prelude logo on the passenger side of the dashboard is now red instead of white.

Technical specifications

Mechanically, the 2027 Limited Edition does not differ from the standard Prelude. The hybrid powertrain includes a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and two electric motors, together producing 200 hp (149 kW / 203 hp) and delivering power to the front wheels. The Honda S+Shift system simulates gear shifting by adjusting torque and sound effects for a more engaging driving experience.

Price and availability

The special version of the Honda Prelude 2027 Limited Edition is already available for order in Japan, with deliveries to dealers starting on August 20. The price of the model is ¥6,306,300 ($39,300), which is only ¥126,500 ($800) more than the standard version.

Honda has not yet revealed plans for other markets, so it remains an open question whether this color scheme will reach North America for the 2027 model year.

This special version demonstrates Honda’s strategy of maintaining interest in the Prelude model on the domestic market, where Japanese automakers often release limited series to stimulate sales. It is worth noting that the small price premium makes this version accessible to brand enthusiasts who want a more exclusive exterior look without significant technical changes. At the same time, the lack of information about international markets may indicate that Honda views this version as a local experiment before possible global expansion.
