Honda Has Already Built Electric Sports Car Prototypes

Development of Electric Sports Cars at Honda

The Honda company is actively working on the creation of electric sports cars, as evidenced by the address of CEO Toshihiro Mibe. He noted that the company has already developed numerous prototypes of such vehicles, but currently does not plan to launch them on the market. The main reason is the inappropriate timing for launch, although work on improving the technologies continues.

Current Status of Projects

Despite the fact that Honda has created many prototypes of electric sports cars, they will not be available to buyers in the near future. The CEO explained that the company is exploring opportunities for launch, but does not yet consider the time to be right. However, he added that Honda will one day offer an electric GT car when technologies and market conditions allow.

We are exploring sports cars on an electric basis and have already created many prototypes internally. However, we do not believe that now is the right time to launch a production model.

Impact on Future Models

This situation indicates that the next generation NSX is likely postponed. Acura presented the Electric Vision Design Study concept in 2023, but plans to launch a sports model in 2027-2028 may be revised. The electric revolution in the automotive industry has slowed down, forcing manufacturers to adjust their strategies.

Trends in the Electric Vehicle Market

Sales of electric vehicles continue to grow, but the pace of their adoption has proven slower than expected. This has forced many automakers, including Honda, to reconsider their electric initiatives and focus on traditional models with internal combustion engines. For now, the company maintains an emphasis on participation in Formula 1, where it demonstrates its technological achievements.

Today, many automakers face similar challenges related to the transition to electric vehicles. Changes in market conditions, technological limitations, and consumer demand are shaping the future of the automotive industry. Honda, with its developed prototypes, demonstrates readiness for innovation, but at the same time approaches their implementation cautiously to ensure long-term success.
