Rare Ford GT sold for a record amount
Some cars are made to be used, while others become museum exhibits. Sometimes there are unique models that combine both roles. The story of this Ford GT is a vivid example of how the collector’s market turns cars into investment objects.
This GT was sold through the Sotheby’s Motorsport auction house for $812,000 ($837,500 including commission). It was never registered and has only 15 miles on it. The car was received by the Newport Car Museum in 2021, but it is unknown whether the new owner will use it or keep it as a collectible.
Car details
The model has a black color with racing stripes, carbon elements, and silver wheels. Buyers of original Ford GTs were required to adhere to resale restrictions for two years, but after this period, many of them ended up on the market for prices over a million dollars.
This case once again highlights how collectible cars can become investment objects. Although the Ford GT was created for fast driving, some examples remain practically new due to their collectible value. The only question is whether they will ever hit the roads.
