HX — Haval’s Answer to the Land Rover Defender

Official Premiere of the Haval HX at the Beijing Auto Show

The Haval brand, owned by Great Wall Motor, is preparing to present its new flagship full-size off-roader under the codename HX. The official premiere of the model will take place at the Beijing Auto Show. The car is positioned as a serious competitor to models like the Toyota Land Cruiser and Land Rover Defender, which signifies a significant step forward for the brand.

It is currently known that the model will be equipped with a hybrid powertrain. It will combine a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with two electric motors, all-wheel drive, and a four-speed automatic transmission. Exact power figures are still being clarified.

Design Inspired by Market Leaders

The exterior of the new Haval HX shows clear inspiration from modern off-roaders, particularly the Land Rover Defender and the Chinese YangWang U8. The car is presented in a two-tone “bronze/black” color scheme, similar to the flagship BYD crossover.

The HX Is Haval’s Answer To The Land Rover Defender

Designers have focused on a robust, “square” image. The front features large square headlights, a simple silver grille, and a black bumper. A LiDAR unit for autonomous driving systems is noticeable on the roof. The side view is emphasized by massive door handles, powerful pillars, and square wheel arches. The rear with rectangular LED taillights, split tailgate doors, and a spare wheel mount looks particularly expressive.

Technological Features and Sales Plans

The car is built on the GWM One architecture. Like most modern Chinese novelties, the HX will receive advanced driver assistance systems. Among them are a Navigate On Autopilot function for automatic driving in the city and on highways, as well as autonomous parking systems.

The start of sales for the new model is planned for the third quarter of this year. It is expected that the model will be available not only in the domestic Chinese market but will also be exported to selected foreign countries. Information about the exact price has not been disclosed yet.

The appearance of the Haval HX could significantly change the perception of the brand on the global market. The strong support of the parent company GWM, a modern platform and technologies, as well as a design that aligns with global trends, make it an interesting player in the full-size SUV segment. The success of the model will depend on the final pricing policy, build quality, and how well it performs in real-world conditions compared to already established competitors.
