Hyundai is preparing to introduce an affordable electric car

First photos of the affordable Hyundai Ioniq 2 electric car

Spy photos have for the first time captured a new affordable electric car from Hyundai, which is likely to be named Ioniq 2. The car resembles a hatchback version of the Kia EV2. The model is expected to have around 201 hp and will position itself above the Hyundai Inster.

So far, Kia has been actively developing its lineup of affordable electric cars, such as the EV3 and EV4. Hyundai, however, has been focused on larger and more expensive models, like the Ioniq 9. But now the company is preparing a budget option — the Ioniq 2.

Design and technical features

The prototype is well camouflaged, but it is visible that it has dimensions similar to the Kia EV2. However, the Ioniq 2 is positioned as a classic hatchback, not a crossover. It features a vertical front end with a wide lower grille, compact LED headlights, and an angular sensor. The car’s profile resembles a traditional hatchback with a smooth roofline and small windows.

The model’s wheels are fitted with Hankook iON GT tires, specially designed for compact electric vehicles.

The rear end has a vertical design with LED taillights and an angular rear window. Technical details are still limited, but it is likely that the Ioniq 2 will use the E-GMP platform with a 58.3 kWh battery and a front electric motor producing 201 hp.

Hyundai continues to expand its electric lineup, and the Ioniq 2 could become an important player in the affordable electric vehicle segment. Its design and technical specifications indicate that it is aimed at urban drivers looking for compact and efficient transportation. The model is expected to appear on the market within the next few years.
