Hyundai Updates Its Compact SUV Priced at $6,200

Although the Hyundai Exter appeared only in 2023, the manufacturer has already presented its updated version for the Indian market. The small SUV received noticeable but balanced changes in the exterior and interior, while retaining its budget essence.

Updated Exterior Design

The front of the car retained the split optics with LED technology and the characteristic H-shaped graphics, but received a completely new bumper. Among the changes are a larger radiator grille, a new aluminum-look insert, and a different placement of the model name on the hood.

Hyundai has presented an updated version of its smallest electric vehicle.

In the side view, thickened plastic claddings on the wheel arches, reminiscent of over-fenders, are noticeable, as well as a completely new design of 15-inch alloy wheels, which still look small against the backdrop of the car’s dimensions.

The rear differs with a new dual-element roof spoiler, a simplified pattern of the decorative insert between the rear lights, and an updated bumper. The palette of available body colors has been supplemented with new shades – Golden Bronze and Titanium Black Matte.

With a length of 3995 mm, the Hyundai Exter remains the smallest crossover in Hyundai’s Indian lineup, although it is 400 mm longer than the South Korean domestic market model Casper.

Brighter Interior Solutions

The interior retained the 8-inch multimedia system, but it now supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. A new color combination for seat upholstery – dark blue and gray – has become available, and the dashboard received carbon-look trim.

The new version of the Hyundai Venue also received clearer, “squared” body contours.

In addition, the crossover was equipped with a dashcam, a multifunctional steering wheel with a flat bottom, metal pedal overlays, a new center armrest, and USB Type-C ports.

Such a seemingly simple option as height-adjustable driver’s seat for height is now included as standard equipment for all Exter trims. The same applies to six airbags, an Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system, and a Hill Start Assist system.

Familiar Powertrains

The powertrain lineup remained unchanged, as did the car’s front-wheel-drive layout. The gasoline naturally aspirated 1.2-liter four-cylinder engine develops 82 hp and 114 Nm of torque. A bi-fuel version is also offered, which, when running on compressed natural gas (CNG), produces 68 hp and 95 Nm.

The successor to the Hyundai Accent, priced around $12,000, received features borrowed from the brand’s larger models.

The gasoline version boasts a trunk volume of 391 liters, while in the bi-fuel variant, due to the installed gas tanks, this figure is reduced to 225 liters.

Affordable Pricing Policy

Prices for the 2026 model year Hyundai Exter start from 5.80 lakh rupees for the base HX 2 trim and reach 9.42 lakh rupees for the top HX 10 version.

These figures demonstrate a slight increase compared to the pre-facelift model, which cost from 5.64 lakh rupees, but the Exter still remains significantly more affordable than the Venue model, whose prices start from 7.80 lakh. Among the main competitors in the Indian market are the recently updated Tata Punch, as well as the Suzuki Ignis, Citroen C3, Renault Kiger, and Nissan Magnite.

The presentation of the updated Hyundai Exter once again highlights the dynamics and competitiveness of the compact crossover segment in developing markets, particularly in India. Manufacturers are actively working to offer modern design, relevant connectivity technologies, and safety systems even in the most budget models, which just a few years ago were the prerogative of more expensive cars. The slight price increase will likely be compensated for buyers by these very improvements. The model’s success among competitors will depend on how well Hyundai managed to balance the innovations with preserving the main advantage of the Exter – its affordability.
