New Hyundai Pickup: What We Know
Hyundai plans to release its own pickup, which will compete with models such as the Ford Ranger, Isuzu D-Max, and Toyota Hilux. Although the exact release date is still unknown, it is expected to happen by the end of the decade. Unlike Kia, which has already introduced its Tasman pickup, Hyundai is still deciding on the platform and concept for the future model.
Hyundai Australia CEO Don Romano stated that the company is considering various options, including a body-on-frame construction or an electric platform. However, a final decision has not yet been made. There is also talk of a possible collaboration with General Motors to develop the new vehicle.
“We are considering what GM can offer. My goal is to launch the project into production within three years,” Romano noted.
Prospects of an Electric Pickup
Although Hyundai has the technology to create an electric pickup, demand for such models, especially in Australia, remains low. Therefore, the brand may focus on traditional engines or hybrid solutions. Additionally, a joint development with GM could accelerate the new model’s arrival on the market.
The pickup market remains important for many manufacturers, and Hyundai does not want to stay on the sidelines. The choice between in-house development and collaboration with other automakers highlights the company’s strategic flexibility. Details about the new model are expected to emerge in the coming years as Hyundai finalizes the technical aspects and market prospects.
