Hyundai introduced a concept of a compact electric hatchback the size of a Golf, expected in 2026

Concept of the future Hyundai electric car

At the auto show in Munich, Hyundai introduced the Concept Three, which could become a serious competitor for the future electric version of the Volkswagen Golf. The production version, likely under the name Ioniq 3, is expected to be manufactured in Europe starting in 2027.

Design and features

The concept features a coupe-like shape, a sloping roofline, and a low nose, reminiscent of a sports car. According to Hyundai representatives, the Three is an “aero hatchback” that combines performance and practicality thanks to its dynamic roof, visual tension from crossed lines, and vertical rear window.

Hyundai calls the Three an aero hatchback, claiming that the combination of a sporty roof, visual tension from crossed lines, and a vertical rear window combines performance and practicality.

Production versions will likely be less aggressive and will not have gull-wing rear doors, but some elements, such as the rear diffuser and spoiler, may be used in the sporty N version.

Technology and interior

The concept is equipped with parametric pixel lighting with a gradient effect, making the upper pixels brighter. The interior lacks a large touchscreen—instead, drivers can use their own widgets to customize the experience. The bucket seats are made from eco-friendly materials, and the console has an unusual shifter.

Technical details have not yet been disclosed, but the Ioniq 3 is expected to be similar to the Kia EV4, with a 400-volt electric system, single or dual motor options, two battery types, and a range of about 390 miles for the most powerful models.

This concept demonstrates how Hyundai plans to strengthen its presence in the European electric car market by offering a stylish and technologically advanced product capable of competing with traditional European brands.
