Hyundai Bids Farewell to the Hot Hatchback i20 N with a Final Special Edition

Hyundai i20 N Shadow Edition: Farewell Special Edition for Australia

The current generation of the Hyundai i20 is nearing its end, and it will soon be replaced by a fully updated model, which has already been unveiled as a tall hatchback in Brazil. To give the predecessor a proper send-off, Hyundai’s Australian division has launched an exclusive version of the hot hatchback i20 N called the Shadow Edition.

The model’s production run is limited to just 100 units, which will be available exclusively in Australia. The i20 N Shadow Edition receives a range of special features and a slightly higher price tag. The most noticeable change is the unique 18-inch matte bronze forged alloy wheels, which look even better than the standard i20 N wheels.

Additionally, the car gets new black wheel nuts and black decals along the lower part of the doors. While the standard model is available in five colors, the Shadow Edition can only be ordered in two options: Atlas White or Phantom Black.

Interior Changes and Exclusive Details

Changes have also been made inside the hatchback. These include a bronze number plate on the dashboard, an Alcantara gear shift lever, special rubber floor mats with a tread pattern mimicking Pirelli P Zero tires, and a steering wheel wrapped in Alcantara with a Performance Blue marker at the 12 o’clock position.

Familiar Power, Unchanged

No modifications were made to the powertrain. The car retains the familiar 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 201 hp (150 kW) between 5500-6000 rpm and 275 Nm (203 lb-ft) of torque between 1750-4500 rpm. Power is sent to the front wheels via a six-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential, making the i20 N an incredibly fun car for spirited driving.

Pricing and Limitations

As noted, buyers will have to pay a premium for the privilege of owning the Shadow Edition. While the base i20 N starts at AUD 37,500 (USD 26,500) excluding on-road costs, prices for the Shadow Edition start at AUD 41,500 (USD 29,300) for the Atlas White color, while the Phantom Black version costs from AUD 42,095 (USD 29,700).

This special series serves as a kind of farewell to a model that has gained recognition for its dynamics and handling. The limited production run of just 100 units makes it collectible, and exclusive design elements such as the bronze wheels and Alcantara interior accentuate the car’s special status. It is worth noting that Hyundai continues to support enthusiasts by offering a manual transmission, which is becoming increasingly rare in the modern automotive world. This decision underscores a focus on the driving experience cherished by connoisseurs.
