Hyundai reveals details of Insteroid, its best small electric vehicle

Hyundai has prepared the Insteroid concept, which impresses with its dramatic design inspired by the world of video games. It’s not entirely clear what mechanical changes the brand has made to this vehicle. Already next month, Hyundai will showcase this model to the public. Over the past few years, Hyundai has created several high-performance electric concepts, proving its commitment to keeping cars exciting and not hesitating to evolve. It looks like they’ve done it again with the new project known as Insteroid.

This special car is presented in a series of images and videos that transform the ordinary electric Inster, inspired by video games. As you might have guessed, the name of the car is a portmanteau of ‘Inster’ and ‘Steroid,’ and its updated version will be unveiled in person at the beginning of April. It seems that Insteroid looks almost nothing like the ordinary Inster. A completely new body design was created for the concept, including massive wheel arch extensions at the front and rear, reminiscent of the Hyundai i20 N WRC images. The interior appears to be fully covered, where we see a roll cage.

Beyond that, Hyundai designers have created a set of intriguing aero discs for the Insteroid and created a tall rear splitter for it. Many of the car’s teasers that have been published on social media show that it will come with a set of bright orange accents and the inscription ‘ghost,’ which looks like it was taken straight from the game Pac-Man. One of the teasers shows some tools in the car’s interior, including Boost buttons, driving modes, and track mode. There also seem to be orange seat belts. According to Hyundai, the Insteroid is an “exciting ‘glitch’ in the automotive matrix that seamlessly combines advanced video game aesthetics with real-world engineering to create a vehicle that seems as if it sprang straight from a digital speed track.” The Casper, on which it is based, comes with a single electric motor that accelerates 95 hp in the base version and 113 hp in the flagship version.

We hope that Hyundai will install a more powerful powertrain for the Insteroid, perhaps the same dual system as the one used in the Ioniq 5 N presented last year’s lab model.
