Volkswagen T7 Facelift Spotted During Winter Testing
The updated Volkswagen T7, including its camper version, was captured during cold-weather testing in Sweden. Interestingly, the vehicle used an unusual camouflage for disguise.
Observations revealed the following key points:
Camouflage and New Front-End Design
At first glance, the prototype in the top Ocean trim doesn’t look particularly remarkable. However, upon closer inspection, it becomes clear that the entire front end is covered with a photorealistic wrap that mimics the design of the current model.
The narrow upper grille turned out to be just a high-quality sticker. The fact that the prototype lacks ventilation here suggests that the future production model might abandon it altogether and receive a more traditional front end.
Gaps in the wrap also indicate that the headlights will be larger than they appear, as their contours are visible. They will likely be connected by a new, more minimalist LED strip. Additional details are difficult to discern, but a new bumper with an updated lower air intake can be expected. Cracks and bulges in the camouflage suggest it will take on a rectangular shape, possibly similar to the one installed on the ID. Buzz.
Expected Changes to Exterior and Interior
No other exterior changes are visible at the moment, but the production model may have several other refinements, including new rear lights and a slight correction to the rear bumper. However, it seems designers are paying much more attention to the front end and the cabin.
As for the cabin, the interior will receive a long-awaited update, the main novelty of which will likely be a larger, separately positioned multimedia system. This display will replace the current 10-inch screen, and it is expected to be the modern MIB4 module, similar to the 12.9-inch system installed in the American Tiguan.
In addition to new technology, an updated instrument panel and modernized controls can be expected. The steering wheel also appears to be new, although it’s difficult to say for sure at this stage.
Powertrains and Possible Improvements
The current model offers a range of powertrains, including a 2.0-liter TDI with 148 hp or 201 hp, as well as a plug-in hybrid variant. The latter is equipped with a 1.5-liter engine, an electric motor, and a 19.7 kWh battery, providing a combined output of 241 hp and an electric-only range of up to 84 km in the UK.
The updated plug-in hybrid version may receive an improved battery pack to increase electric range, which is a logical step in the context of the model’s overall evolution. However, this is just speculation for now.
The appearance of the updated T7 comes at a crucial moment for Volkswagen, as the company seeks an optimal balance between traditional minivans and their electric successors. This model’s success has always been based on practicality and adaptability, so updates aimed at modern technology and comfort seem quite logical. The question remains how serious the changes in design and technical content will make the car more attractive in a market increasingly oriented towards electrification.
