Recently, Acura introduced a new model based on the Honda HR-V, and it seems Infiniti is preparing something similar. Rumors suggest they are developing a new car that will be based on the Nissan Rogue.
Rumors about this crossover emerged last summer, and last month Nissan allegedly showed it at a meeting with suppliers. According to reports, the model has the internal name i33C and could be released by the end of 2027.
The company is not disclosing details, but its representative confirmed: “We are seriously considering the possibility of creating a new compact electrified SUV for Infiniti to expand the brand’s lineup.” The publication reports that a business plan for this model is currently being developed, and a final decision is to be made by the end of the year.
Since the crossover has not yet received official approval, many details remain uncertain. However, it is assumed that the model will be built on the platform of the next-generation Rogue and will not be a simple rebadge. There is also speculation that the car could receive a plug-in hybrid or e-Power system.
If the project is approved, production could begin in Smyrna, Tennessee, where the Nissan Rogue is assembled. This would avoid import tariffs, and some analysts believe the company could sell about 50,000 units per year.
This would be a significant breakthrough, as last year Infiniti sold only 58,070 cars in the US. Moreover, with such figures, the new model could become the most popular in the American division, since last year the QX60 sold only 27,808 copies.
It is still unknown whether the crossover will be approved, but Infiniti desperately needs new models. Last year, the brand discontinued production of the QX30, and the US versions of the QX50 and QX55 are set to go out of production in December.
