The confrontation between fans of the iOS and Android operating systems reminds calm observers of a sparring match. Not in a physical sense, of course. Simply fencing with arguments, users of both OSes mercilessly attack each other as if the fate of the planet depends on it.
We will step back from these disputes and, together with experts from the YABLUKA network of original certified electronics stores, take a look at how the 2023 flagships from the two market leaders – the base Apple 15 and Google Pixel 8 Pro – are similar and different.
Similarity
Let’s take a look at the technical specifications that concern users most. So, let’s start with the similarities.
Performance
Both devices are equipped with exclusive processors: the iPhone 15 – A16 Bionic, Google Pixel 8 Pro – Google Tensor G3. Both chips are manufactured using a 5nm process and guarantee equally excellent performance for everyday tasks, gaming, and heavy software work.
Display
Both smartphones feature OLED displays with high brightness and contrast. The base iPhone 15 has a 6.1″ screen size, resolution of 2532 x 1170 pixels, and support for ProMotion technology with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. The Pixel 8 Pro has a 6.7″ screen size, resolution of 3200 x 1440 pixels, and similar support for a 120Hz refresh rate.
5G
Both devices support 5G, providing high download speeds and stable connectivity in regions with this coverage.
Now let’s look at the differences, which primarily involve the OS. The fundamental difference between iOS and Android is Apple’s totalitarianism and Google’s democracy. The first corporation controls everything tightly, while the second has open-source code and allows every device manufacturer to do as they please. But with Pixel smartphones, Google provides users with clean Android – without third-party software.
Cameras
The iPhone 15 features a dual wide-angle camera with a 48MP main sensor and a 12MP telephoto lens. The Pixel 8 Pro offers a more complex system with three cameras: a 50MP main sensor, a 12MP ultra-wide lens, and a 48MP telephoto lens. Thanks to this, the Pixel 8 Pro has higher zooming and night shooting capabilities compared to the iPhone device.
Design and Materials
The iPhone 15 has an aluminum and glass body, giving it a more elegant and formal appearance. The Pixel 8 Pro, on the other hand, has an experimental design with a matte glass body and a rear panel with a protruding camera.
Battery and Charging
The iPhone 15 supports fast charging up to 20W and MagSafe wireless charging. The Pixel 8 Pro offers the same up to 30W charging and supports the Qi wireless charging standard.
In real conditions, both phones can last a full day with moderate use, but the Pixel 8 Pro usually has a slightly larger battery reserve, and in power-saving mode, it can last up to 72 hours.
Ecosystem
Apple has a closed ecosystem where all devices work seamlessly. Google is still developing its ecosystem with Pixel and Google Home, but it is not as seamless yet.
These are just brief highlights that these devices offer. Which one do you like more, decide for yourself. We have tried to be as objective as possible.
