On Turbo wrapper No. 50, an incredibly rare and little-known sports car Ledl is depicted. It is one of the few cars from Austria.
Designer Günther Ledl started creating beach buggies based on the Volkswagen Beetle in the 1970s and then began producing replicas of pre-war Bugattis. In 1978, he presented a prototype sports car, and three years later the serial Ledl AS was introduced to the world.
The coupe looked very impressive for its time, and it still amazes today. Its wedge-shaped design is reminiscent of the Lancia Stratos and Lotus Eclat. The body was made of fiberglass, giving the car a weight of 850 kg.
However, the specifications were not as impressive. The car was equipped with Ford Escort engines with a capacity of 1.3 liters (70 hp) and 1.6 liters (129 hp).
The top version accelerated to a hundred in 8.4 seconds and reached a speed of 220 km/h. The average fuel consumption was 8.8 liters per 100 km.
By 1987, Günther Ledl managed to assemble a total of 249 cars, which is not bad for a small company. Moreover, most Ledl AS were exported to New Zealand and Japan. The firm was brought down by new eco-standards, as Ledl was unable to equip the car with a new engine with a catalytic converter.
