New off-roader for the Australian market
Isuzu has introduced a special version of the MU-X off-roader called Tour Mate for the Australian market. This model features an enhanced package focused on travel and operation in challenging conditions.
Market position and updates
Isuzu MU-X may not attract as much attention as some of its competitors, but it occupies its niche as a reliable and practical alternative to models like Toyota Fortuner and Ford Everest.
Built on the same chassis as the D-Max pickup, this three-row off-roader recently underwent an update, and now Isuzu Australia has introduced it in the special Tour Mate version.
The main element of the package is the steel bumper protection, available in matte black or polished aluminum. It protects the front of the vehicle from collisions with animals and also includes LED fog lights and parking sensors.
Exterior and functionality
Tour Mate inherited 20-inch alloy wheels from the flagship LS-T 4×4 version but received additional protective moldings on the front and rear windows, as well as special badges on the rear doors.
Another interesting feature is the towing kit with a 50mm ball, 12-pin wiring, and an electronic brake controller, allowing full utilization of the MU-X’s maximum towing capacity of 3.5 tons.
Interior and technical specifications
The interior of the special version features rubber floor mats, protective cargo area lining, and wireless charging for devices. Standard equipment includes a 9-inch multimedia system, leather upholstery, electric and heated front seats, an eight-speaker audio system, and a power tailgate.
Under the hood is the familiar 3.0-liter turbo diesel engine that produces 188 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque. A newer 2.2-liter diesel engine with 161 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque has also been added to the lineup, but it is only available for base versions of the MU-X and D-Max.
Transmission and price
All-wheel drive is provided through a six-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel drive system, supplemented by a rear differential lock and a mode for difficult off-road conditions.
MU-X Tour Mate is already available for order in Australia starting at 79,990 Australian dollars. According to the manufacturer, this package allows savings of over 7,600 dollars compared to the standard LS-T 4×4 version equipped with similar accessories.
Among the MU-X’s competitors in the Australian market are Ford Everest, Toyota Fortuner, Land Cruiser Prado, and Mitsubishi Pajero Sport.
The introduction of Tour Mate emphasizes that, despite the popularity of urban crossovers, demand for genuine off-road vehicles remains stable. This is particularly noticeable in regions with challenging road conditions where reliability and functionality are paramount. The use of proven technical solutions, such as ladder frame construction and diesel engines, makes the MU-X an attractive choice for those who value practicality and durability.
