Jeep Brings Back the Grand Cherokee Trailhawk, But Without a Key Component

The Return of the Beloved Off-Roader

Jeep has officially confirmed that the off-road Grand Cherokee Trailhawk version will return to the lineup later this year. This news has been eagerly awaited by many brand fans since the model’s facelift. Along with the announcement, the brand published a teaser image showcasing the powerful and aggressive front-end design of the future vehicle.

The updated Trailhawk model will be based on the recently refreshed 2026 model year Grand Cherokee and will hit the market as a 2027 model year offering. It will fill the spot left vacant after the discontinuation of the hybrid Trailhawk 4xe version.

What Does the Teaser Show?

Although full technical details have not yet been revealed, the teaser hints at key differences from the regular versions. The photo shows a more aggressive bumper, a bright red tow hook peeking out from the corner, and red graphics on the hood, similar to those used on previous Trailhawk models.

Amber-colored LED daytime running lights, a seven-slot black grille, and darkened trim across the entire front end – all of this points to the vehicle’s special, off-road character.

Launch Strategy and Equipment

The absence of this key trim at the launch of the updated model was likely a strategic decision. It allows the brand to maintain public interest by gradually introducing important new features. Engineers may also have needed additional time to refine certain aspects of the vehicle.

The Grand Cherokee Trailhawk is expected to retain its classic set of off-road attributes, but now without the hybrid powertrain. Under the hood, there could be either a conventional V6 or a turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Standard features should include all-wheel drive, all-terrain tires, a four-wheel-drive system with a two-speed transfer case, underbody protection, and likely an air suspension for increased ground clearance.

The return of the Trailhawk underscores the importance of this version for Jeep’s image as a manufacturer of true off-roaders. In a world where many crossovers are focused solely on asphalt, having a series-production model with enhanced off-road capability is a fundamental point for the brand. It also shows that the company is listening to its audience, who clearly missed this trim. Now the main question is – which exact engine will the new version get, and will it be able to fully replace the powerful but discontinued hybrid model in the hearts of the most loyal enthusiasts.
