At the Mecum auction, a Ferrari 340 America from 1952 was put up for sale. Several million dollars are expected to be fetched for the unique Ferrari supercar.
However, the car is so expensive now – in 1990, it was sold for just $200. This is because it was found rusty in an abandoned American barn. Moreover, previous owners replaced some body panels, sold the original V12, and installed a Chevrolet V8.
Yet the car has a glorious history. In 1952, this Ferrari 340 America raced in Le Mans, and the crew of André Simon and Lucien Vincent even finished 5th in the legendary race. But then the car was sold in the USA and passed through several hands.
It was only in the 21st century that the Ferrari supercar was restored to its original condition. In 2006, the car was bought for $26.9 thousand by a well-known American restorer, Tom Shaughnessy, who restored it.
