The American website CarMD has published a quality rating for used cars. Experts not only named the most reliable cars but also identified the models that are the cheapest to maintain.
CarMD analyzed over 5.6 million vehicles released from 1996 to 2018. As a primary example for assessing repair costs, they chose to address malfunctions signaled by the Check Engine light.
The check engine light appears least often in Toyota, Acura, Hyundai, Honda, and Mitsubishi vehicles.
When noting individual models, it is the Audi Q5, Honda Civic, and Subaru XV (Crosstrek). In most cases, it concerns replacing the fuel cap, filler neck, or oxygen sensor.
As for the average engine repair cost, the lowest was found for Mazda ($285.7), Kia ($319.97), and Dodge ($326.41).
The cheapest to maintain cars are the Hyundai Tucson (an average of $66.67 for engine repair), Hyundai Accent ($69.31), and Kia Rio ($70.19).
