The war in Ukraine, referred to as a ‘special military operation’ in Russia, is fortunately not coming cheap for Russia. Global brands are leaving Russia, including car manufacturers. Furthermore, it is notable that foreign brands, which have their factories in Russia, are also halting the supply of spare parts and stopping production.
Important: Immediately after the end of the war in Ukraine, we will fully transition to the Ukrainian language, but until its end, we will write in another language – to make it easier to reach the other side of the barricade. For this purpose, we intend to forcibly index our posts and actively promote them in Russian media and public forums! We would be grateful if you could help us in this matter!
So, let’s walk through the brands that, one way or another, supported Ukraine, showing that they are against the war in Ukraine and, we hope, understand that, to put it mildly, it is not a ‘special military operation’ but real terror. However, there are also manufacturers in the list who have taken a neutral stance and/or decided not to cease their operations and/or factories in Russia. Read carefully to stay informed!
- AB Volvo
The Swedish truck manufacturer AB Volvo announced that it has completely halted production and sales in Russia.
- Audi
Suspended shipments and supplies
- BMW
The Bavarian car manufacturer BMW announced on March 1 that it is halting car deliveries to Russia and their production at a Russian plant.

- Chery
The Chinese brand has suspended shipments to dealers. The official version is a price review.
- Citroen
Suspended the supply of new cars
- Cummins
The American manufacturer of truck and commercial vehicle engines, Cummins Inc, is suspending supplies. It should be noted that it collaborated with KAMAZ.
- Daimler Truck
The truck manufacturer will freeze its activities in Russia in all areas, including cooperation with the Russian truck manufacturer KAMAZ.

- General Motors
This American company has no factories in Russia, but they were officially supplied and sold quite well. Now GM has stopped car deliveries of all brands ‘until further notice.’
- Hyundai
The Russian Hyundai Motor plant has suspended operations due to a lack of components. Meanwhile, the South Korean company announced that ‘Hyundai supplies to Russia are in question.’

- Jaguar Land Rover
Suspended car deliveries to Russia
- Nissan and Toyota
The Nissan and Toyota factories in Russia are supposedly operating as usual. But this is not certain. And hopefully, this is another lie from the Russian side.
- Renault
As other media write, the French automaker Renault’s factory in Moscow (ZAO Renault Russia) is ‘suspending work due to logistical disruptions related to border reinforcements.’

Regarding the position of the French company itself, in an interview with the Financial Times, Renault Group’s head Luca de Meo stated that the war in Ukraine could lead to halts in car production in Russia, including at AvtoVAZ and the Renault plant.
- AvtoVAZ
Renault-controlled AvtoVAZ is highly dependent on the French. Therefore, it remains to hope that Renault will freeze its activity in Russia or move its production facilities. Meanwhile, prices for new Ladas have skyrocketed in Russia – a small but pleasant fact.
- Stellantis (Abarth, Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Citroën, Dodge, DS, Fiat, Jeep, Lancia, Maserati, Opel, Peugeot, Ram Trucks, and Vauxhall)
The situation with this company is ambiguous. Starting with the fact that many employees in the Ukrainian office openly declared that they are resigning and severing all relations with Stellantis because ‘Stellantis is out of politics, and we will not write an appeal regarding the official position.’
On the other hand, the Stellantis automobile group stated that it is ready to move its factory out of Russia or cut production volumes. Specifically, this was announced by the group’s head Carlos Tavares. However, the press service of the governor of the region, Vladislav Shapsha, where the group’s plants are located in Russia, claimed that ‘Everything is fine. This was also confirmed by ‘PSMA Rus.’ But considering how well they can lie in Russia – let’s hope this is not the case.
- Volkswagen
Volkswagen in Russia has stated that ‘Supplies will resume once the consequences of the sanctions imposed by the European Union and the United States are clarified.’
P.S. The war in Ukraine has been ongoing for 7 days. On February 24, Russia invaded Ukraine and, to this day, continues to carry out missile strikes on residential areas and shells not only military facilities but also kills civilians, even using prohibited weapons.
Estimated losses for Russia as of yesterday, March 1: about 198 tanks, 846 armored vehicles, 29 aircraft, 29 helicopters, 77 guns, 60 tanks, 24 RSZOs, 7 air defense systems, about 5710 personnel killed, with 200 captured (data from the Ukrainian Armed Forces General Staff).
