Peer-to-Peer Transfers in Ukraine: What Senders and Receivers Need to Know

P2P transfers are the most popular way in Ukraine to send money to relatives and settle payments for goods or services between individuals who are not engaged in commercial activities. The ability to transfer money from card to card saves time and allows the recipient to receive funds almost instantly. However, such payments have a number of nuances and restrictions. Let’s consider them in detail. What to consider before making a money transfer: Since the beginning of October 2024, Ukraine has set a limit on P2P transfers. Therefore, individuals are currently allowed to send no more than 150,000 UAH to bank cards per month. The restrictions do not apply to: IBAN format payments; Incoming payments; Operations from cards whose owners earn more than 150,000 UAH. In this case, the limit is equal to their monthly income; Incoming and outgoing transactions from volunteer cards. However, to avoid restrictions, a person must prove involvement in volunteering activities. In addition, when planning to make a payment to a card, it is important to consider the following points: sender’s bank limits – the maximum amount that can be sent in one transaction or within a day, the maximum number of transactions during a certain period; sender’s and recipient’s fees; careful entry of the recipient’s card number. Sometimes mechanical errors are detected by the program, in which case the transaction is canceled. However, if the money is received by a third party, returning it can be quite problematic. It is also important to remember that card transfers are intended for transferring small amounts and exclusively between individuals. Payment for goods and services to individual entrepreneurs or legal entities should be made to the IBAN details. For transfers abroad, only a foreign currency card can be used, with a monthly limit of 100,000 UAH. However, if the recipient is abroad and has a hryvnia card issued by a Ukrainian bank, money can be sent without any problems.
