Caterpillar Introduced a Unique Pickup Based on Ford
In the world of construction and mining equipment, Caterpillar is an absolute giant. This name is usually associated with powerful machines, not with consumer cars. However, the company took a step in this direction by introducing a special version of a pickup truck.
The main features of the novelty are:
An Idea Born on the Internet
The impetus for creating this project was images generated by artificial intelligence that spread online in late 2024. They depicted a pickup truck under the Cat brand. The idea was so liked by the company that it was decided to bring it to life in metal, albeit based on an existing Ford model.
Unfortunately, Caterpillar emphasized that this is only a one-off specimen, so the chances of purchasing such a car are practically nonexistent.

Premiere at CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2026
The pickup truck, named simply Cat Truck, was introduced at the major equipment exhibition CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2026. Despite using the Ford Super Duty platform, the engineers gave the car a completely different, brand-characteristic appearance.
They kept the standard headlights but developed a new radiator grille and a black-colored bumper with bright yellow tow hooks. The hood was replaced with a more expressive one, and square wheel arches were added.
Exterior and Interior
The exterior modifications also included new side steps and unique wheels with off-road tires. The car received a yellow and black livery that repeats the style of Caterpillar heavy equipment. A drone is installed on the roof, which can be launched directly from the cabin; similar systems are already appearing in some markets.
Interior details are not disclosed as widely. It is known that it features the VisionLink Productivity infotainment system with a voice assistant based on artificial intelligence, designed to assist with work on a construction site.
Undoubtedly, Caterpillar has all the technologies and knowledge to create a robust off-road pickup truck. However, translating this experience into a mass-produced car capable of competing with recognized market leaders is a much more difficult task. For now, the company has limited itself to demonstrating the concept and does not plan its commercial production.
This project clearly demonstrates how technological trends, including the popularity of AI-generated images, can influence real decisions even in such conservative industries as special equipment manufacturing. Although the pickup will remain a unique specimen, it serves as a powerful marketing tool that enhances brand recognition and showcases its technological capabilities in a new light. It is also an interesting example of collaboration between the world of heavy industry and mass-market automakers, where each partner uses the other’s strengths.
