Roof and space updates
Volkswagen recently updated its California camper, and now Mercedes is doing the same with the Marco Polo model. The new pop-up roof is constructed with double aluminum paneling. At the rear, it provides approximately 370 mm of headroom – 100 mm more than its predecessor.
Additional roof features: optional LED interior lighting is now available. Customers can also order a new sliding roof and panoramic opening. Mercedes did not go into details but noted that this design offers an unobstructed view of the night sky.
Convenience improvements
In addition to the roof, the Marco Polo gets a redesigned awning. Owners can now remove it between camping trips, making the van more discreet and allowing it to be washed in car washes.
The company has created new magnetic curtains that can be quickly hung and removed. A new audio system with eight speakers and a subwoofer, specially tuned for the Marco Polo, has also been introduced. Mercedes noted that the system includes Bluetooth, enabling music playback even when the multimedia system is turned off.
Other updates include an improved Mercedes‑Benz Advanced Control system, optimized drawer guides, redesigned folding tables, and a new rear seat control panel. The 40-liter refrigerator box is now 25% more energy-efficient.
The van also features 12.3-inch displays, a kitchen unit with two gas burners and a sink. Additionally, there are swiveling front seats and a rear bench that converts into a bed.
Engines and transmission
The Marco Polo is offered with three four-cylinder diesel engines. The base version produces 161 hp (120 kW) and 380 Nm of torque. The mid-range 250 d variant has 187 hp (140 kW) and 440 Nm. The top 300 d version delivers 234 hp (174 kW) and 500 Nm.
All engines are paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. The van is available with either rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. In its fastest configuration, the model accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.8 seconds.
Availability and price
The updated Marco Polo will go on sale in Europe on August 5. The price has not yet been announced, but the previous model started at 80,664 euros (about $91,737) in Germany.
Thus, Mercedes continues to refine its camper, responding to the needs of modern travelers who value comfort and functionality. The updates make the Marco Polo more practical for everyday use while retaining the amenities for long journeys. The introduction of a removable awning and an energy-efficient refrigerator shows that the manufacturer has taken owner feedback into account and strives to make the camper even more versatile.
