Kia EV2 Transforms from Concept to Production Model on January 9

Debut of the Smallest Electric Kia

At the beginning of next year, Kia will take another important step in expanding its electric family by introducing the smallest model. The public saw the EV2 concept at the beginning of this year, and now, after 11 months, it will become clear which exact ideas of the designers were successfully implemented in the production car.

The Korean brand has so far shared little information about the production version of its compact crossover. Only the planned presentation at the Brussels Motor Show is known, as well as the fact that the car will be produced in Europe for local buyers.

Kia’s Smallest EV Could Become One Of Its Most Thrilling Performance Models

However, the company has released three teaser images. Although the car is covered with fabric in them, differences between the production version and the concept shown at Kia EV Day 2025 can be discerned. Fortunately, the overall outlines and robust proportions remain unchanged.

Design and Construction Details

The recognizable features remain: the square front end, the curve of the window line, the slight sporty slope of the roof at the rear, and the spoiler on the tailgate. These details were present on the concept. Although the daytime running lights of the production model, visible through the cover, are not identical to the conceptual ones, they are very similar.

However, serious, albeit expected, differences are also easy to notice. The front overhang looks longer, as production cars need to meet safety requirements, which are not demanded of concept cars. A conventional central body pillar also appears.

Kia

The manufacturer promises that the EV2 will have a “spacious and adjustable interior,” but what exactly this means will only become clear on January 9. In the concept, by folding the rear seats and sliding the front row back, passengers could relax, stretch their legs, and sit on a flat floor when the car was parked.

Technical Expectations

Full information about power and range remains a secret until the debut. However, knowing the features of other available Kia electric models, it can be confidently assumed that the EV2 will receive a 400-volt, not an 800-volt, charging architecture. And despite the aggressive design reminiscent of all-wheel-drive cars, even sporty GT versions will most likely be equipped with a single motor on the front axle.

The closely related Hyundai Inster model offers a choice of batteries with a capacity of 39 kWh or 46 kWh, with a range estimated at 327–369 kilometers. The most powerful of the two available engines develops only 113 horsepower. It remains to be hoped that the Kia version will turn out to be more powerful.

Sales of the EV2 will begin during 2026. The target price of around 30 thousand euros should ensure competitiveness among other compact electric SUVs, such as the Renault 4 E-Tech.

The images below are the EV2 concept presented in February 2025.

Kia

The appearance of the EV2 is a logical continuation of Kia’s strategy to electrify the entire model range. This model could become key for the brand in the European market, where demand for small but practical electric cars is constantly growing. Success in this segment will depend not only on the final price but also on how successfully it manages to balance design, space, and technical characteristics to surpass already known competitors. It will be particularly interesting to see how the model will be positioned next to its own Hyundai Inster, avoiding too direct internal corporate competition.
