Kia is preparing something hot for the Tasman model

Prototype of the Kia Tasman pickup with off-road features

A prototype of the Kia Tasman with enhanced off-road capabilities has appeared on the roads. This mid-size pickup is equipped with powerful tires and likely features a suspension with increased ground clearance. This could be a hint at the production version of the previously showcased Tasman Weekender concept.

Photos from Instagram show that the prototype is camouflaged, but the beadlock wheels with off-road tires are clearly visible. The suspension appears higher than that of the standard model, and the dirt on the body suggests the vehicle has already undergone serious off-road testing.

Karim Habib, Executive Vice President of Design at Kia, noted: “Such a version might appear.” He also emphasized that large wheels and a wider track are “essential” for a pickup like the Tasman.

Possible specifications

If Kia decides to launch such a version, it could feature a more aggressive design inspired by the WKNDR concept. Potential changes include an updated grille, underbody protection, 35-inch tires, and additional off-road accessories.

As for engines, Kia has ruled out a V6 option due to environmental regulations. However, the company is exploring alternative powertrain options for the pickup. Such a version could compete with the Ford Ranger Raptor or other powerful pickups in its class.

The market for rugged off-road vehicles is gaining momentum, and Kia seems to be preparing its response to this trend. Given the demand for more aggressive off-road versions, the appearance of a “hardened” Tasman seems like a logical step—especially considering the success of competitors in this segment.
