Kia may create a new SUV similar to Ford Everest

Kia Tasman may get an SUV version

The new Kia Tasman pickup, which has received mixed reviews for its design, could become the base for creating a rugged SUV similar to the Toyota 4Runner or Land Cruiser. According to Australian brand representatives, such a model could debut by 2029.

“If the Tasman is successful, it will open up many opportunities, so first we need to make a quality pickup”

Market prospects

Australia is one of the key markets for SUVs and pickups. Statistics show that the Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger were the sales leaders in May, and the Toyota Land Cruiser and Prado were in the top 10 most popular models.

The starting price for the Tasman in Australia is 42,990 Australian dollars, while the top X-Pro 4×4 version costs 74,990 dollars. All modifications are equipped with a 2.2-liter turbo diesel engine with 207 hp paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Base configurations received steel wheels and LED optics, while more expensive versions offer a premium Harman Kardon audio system, heated seats and steering wheel, and a panoramic roof. The success of the Tasman in the market could determine the future of a potential SUV variant.

Despite stiff competition from established brands and Chinese manufacturers, the new Kia pickup has attracted significant attention. The company is betting on reliability and comfort, which could be a decisive factor for buyers in this segment.
