Official US Debut
The all-new 2027 Kia EV3 officially debuted in the US at the New York Auto Show. This compact electric SUV, positioned above the smaller EV2 in Kia’s global lineup, has already gained popularity in other markets. Now it is finally ready to win over American buyers with an estimated starting price in the range of $30,000-$35,000.
The Most Affordable Electric Kia
Positioned as the brand’s most affordable electric vehicle for North America, the EV3 opens up the possibility of owning an electric Kia to a new audience. A wheelbase of 105.5 inches means it is smaller than the EV5, which is offered in Canada but not the US, and significantly more compact than the three-row EV9. However, it does not look or feel like a stripped-down version or a copy of other models.
Technically, it is built on the same dedicated E-GMP architecture as its larger relatives like the EV9, but with a 400-volt, not an 800-volt, electrical system. Buyers are offered a choice of two battery packs. The base option is a 58.3 kWh pack, available only in the base Light trim, providing up to 220 miles of EPA-estimated range. Upgrading to the 81.4 kWh battery in the Wind and Land trims increases this figure to an estimated 320 miles for front-wheel-drive models.
All-Wheel Drive and Fast Charging
All-wheel drive is available with the larger battery as an option for Wind and Land and comes standard on the GT-Line and GT, expanding the EV3’s travel capabilities. Charging speed is sufficient for convenient use: charging from 10 to 80 percent takes about 29 minutes for the smaller battery and just over 30 minutes for the larger one. The smaller pack is only available for single-motor models, while the larger one offers a choice between front-wheel and all-wheel drive.

Performance Depending on Trim
Performance depends on the trim. Although Kia’s American division does not specify the power of the single-motor powertrain, in Europe it is rated at 201 hp. If the system is the same, one can expect a 0-60 mph time of around seven and a half seconds, which is sufficient for most city trips.
Sporty GT Version
Dual-motor, all-wheel-drive models are confirmed to have 261 hp, and the top GT version gets even more — 288 hp. Judging by European data for the same model, this should allow for a 0-60 mph sprint in 5.5 seconds. This is not a competitor for the Volvo EX30, which manages it a second faster, but since Volvo has just discontinued its sales in the US, Kia can rest easy.
Furthermore, moving up to the GT gives you not just an extra 17 horsepower. Kia also adds a sport-tuned suspension and steering, as well as the option to equip your EV3 with the same Virtual Gear Shift (VGS) system and Active Sound Design (ASD) generator that has received much praise on other Hyundai Group cars like the Ioniq 5 N.
Interior and Multimedia Systems
The EV3 has dimensions similar to the second-generation Seltos, which Kia is also introducing in New York, and there are even more parallels inside. You get a variation of the same unified display system used on most new Kia models: two 12.3-inch screens and a 5-inch climate control display between them.
The ccNC navigation system, first introduced on the EV9, allows streaming Netflix and YouTube, as well as viewing content from Disney, Marvel, and National Geographic. To fully experience all the sound dynamics in movies, one can opt for the available Harman Kardon audio system. This is one of several attractive options that can be found in the configurator alongside a panoramic sunroof, a smartphone digital key, power liftgate, and a surround-view camera.
Sales Start and Trim Details
Full information on trims and pricing will be announced closer to the sales start date late this year, but it is known that GT-Line cars get a three-spoke steering wheel, metal pedals, and two-tone off-white seats. The true GT version also includes 19-inch wheels with green brake calipers, as well as matching green accents on seat belts, steering wheel, and other interior elements.
The EV3 was supposed to be one of an army of smaller, affordable electric Kia models heading to the US, but the brand decided not to bring the EV4 hatchback and sedan or the EV5 SUV. This means big hopes are pinned on this small model. From test drives in the UK, it is known to be a great electric car, but it arrives on the American market at a time when electric vehicle sales are declining. How high are its chances of success?
The arrival of the EV3 on the American market could be a significant milestone, as it fills a substantial gap in the affordable electric SUV segment. Its specifications, especially the range and the option of a powerful GT version, make it a serious player. The model’s success may largely depend on Kia’s final pricing policy and marketing strategy aimed at convincing buyers of the benefits of an electric vehicle of this size and class amid a general cooling of the EV market.
