Kia updated the XCeed, giving it an electric-car-inspired look after reducing the rest of the Ceed lineup

Kia has officially unveiled the second and most significant update for the XCeed crossover. This facelift aims to refresh the model, which remains the sole representative of the Ceed lineup following the discontinuation of the hatchback, estate, and Proceed.

Key design changes

The updated XCeed features a completely new front end inspired by Kia’s electric vehicles. The main highlights are vertical LED headlights, a significantly narrower ‘tiger nose’ grille, and a massive front bumper with aluminum inserts. The overall style has become more similar to the EV3 and the updated Stonic models.

The rear has also undergone changes: new LED taillights connected by a continuous strip, a redesigned tailgate, and a more substantial rear bumper with protective cladding. The car’s profile remains almost unchanged, apart from new wheel designs and fresh body colors.

Interior and technology

The cabin, which was beginning to look dated, has received a radical overhaul. The main change is the modern digital dashboard consisting of two 12.3-inch displays, similar to those in other new Kia models. The physical button layout and air vents have also been redesigned.

The driver gets a new two-spoke steering wheel, and the center console has become more stylish. The version shown in the photo features white seat upholstery with an interesting pattern that is repeated on the steering wheel and door cards.

Technical specifications and production

Kia has not yet disclosed full technical details but confirms the car will be available with gasoline engines and mild hybrid versions. Most likely, the plug-in hybrid version will no longer return to the lineup. The manufacturer also promises improved ride comfort thanks to a re-tuned suspension.

Production of the updated Kia XCeed will begin on May 29 at the plant in Zilina, Slovakia. Sales in Europe will start in the coming weeks. Interestingly, the XCeed will be sold alongside the new Seltos, which recently debuted on the European market and occupies a similar niche, although it has a more traditional SUV design.

The XCeed update demonstrates Kia’s strategy: not to abandon successful models, but to adapt them to new market demands. Despite the fact that its main competitor, the Ford Focus Active, has already been discontinued, the Korean manufacturer has decided to invest in the further development of this crossover. This decision seems logical, as the XCeed occupies a middle ground between the compact Stonic and the larger Sportage, offering buyers an alternative to traditional SUVs with a more dynamic design. The arrival of the Seltos in Europe creates internal competition, but the different design approaches (more classic SUV for the Seltos versus a cross-hatchback for the XCeed) will allow Kia to reach a wider audience. The focus on gasoline and mild hybrid engines is likely a response to current demand, as plug-in hybrids often have lower sales due to their higher price.
