The mid-size Kia Tasman pickup is just beginning its journey and, according to a company representative, will remain on the market for a long time. However, the model will not be left without updates – it is expected to undergo design changes, and later the introduction of hybrid and fully electric versions.
This information was confirmed by Roland Rivero, Head of Product Planning at Kia Australia. In an interview, he called the Tasman’s body-on-frame platform “quite flexible,” capable of supporting “various types of powertrains.”
Hybrids and Electric Vehicles in the Plans
Currently, the Tasman is offered with gasoline and diesel engines, but eco-friendly versions will appear in the future. Rivero stated that the company is actively exploring the possibilities of creating both hybrid and electric modifications, although exact release dates have not yet been announced.
One possible option is combining the 2.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine offered in the Korean market with a hybrid system. Such a move would allow the Tasman to compete with models like the Ford Ranger Plug-in Hybrid.
A fully electric version will likely receive two electric motors for all-wheel drive. This modification will be a response to the electric pickups from Toyota and Isuzu, including the electric versions of the Hilux.
The Kia representative reported that the Tasman’s life cycle will last 8-12 years. To maintain demand during this period, the company plans to regularly update the model.
Weekender Concept Shows Future Design
Some design changes may be inspired by the Weekender concept presented at the Seoul Mobility Show 2025. Although Rivero emphasized that this is still just a concept, he did not rule out that certain elements could transfer to the production model.
The concept features wider fenders, updated bumpers, a more pronounced hood, and more powerful tires. These features could appear in a special off-road version of the Tasman, aligning with the trend of factory-prepared pickups.
Kia is demonstrating serious intentions regarding the development of its pickup, strengthening its position in this competitive segment. While a facelift is expected, Tasman owners can choose from various trim options for different needs.
