Kia Reduced the Number of Cylinders in the 2027 Telluride Model, but the Price Remained Unchanged

Updates and Price Increases

The extremely popular Kia Telluride has just entered its second generation, receiving an updated design, interior, and new engine options. However, along with the improvements came a higher price tag. Now, even for the base trim, buyers will have to pay over $40,000, including the destination fee.

While the previous Telluride LX started at $36,390, the new 2027 model starts at $39,100. This is not the smallest increase, but it’s worth remembering that this is a complete vehicle redesign, not just a facelift.

The new Kia Telluride abandons the V6 in favor of turbocharged and hybrid four-cylinder engines.

Wide Range of Trims

Kia enthusiastically approached providing variety. The 2027 model is offered in as many as eleven trim levels, giving a choice for practically any buyer.

The familiar S models with front-wheel drive (FWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) remain in the lineup, but now cost $42,090 and $44,090 respectively. The EX FWD and EX AWD trims have also returned, with their starting prices being $43,790 and $45,790. Interestingly, their price increase turned out to be smaller compared to previous versions.

The lineup also retains the X-Line EX AWD version at $47,290. At the higher tiers, the SX FWD is available for $48,790, the X-Line SX AWD for $51,790, or the X-Pro SX AWD for $53,690. The highest level includes the SXP AWD models ($53,890), X-Line SXP ($54,890), and the fully equipped X-Pro SXP AWD for $56,790.

New Engine Lineup

The naturally aspirated V6 engine that defined the previous model has given way to a new 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. It produces 274 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque. While this means a certain reduction in power compared to the former 291-horsepower V6, torque has increased by 49 lb-ft, which should positively affect the vehicle’s responsiveness in daily driving.

For those seeking more power or efficiency, it’s worth waiting for the hybrid Telluride HEV version. This model will combine the same 2.5-liter turbo engine with electric motors and a 1.65 kWh lithium-ion battery. The combined output will be 329 horsepower and 339 lb-ft of torque, offering a noticeable jump in performance.

Additional Equipment

Kia also offers a number of additional options that can be installed either at the factory or at dealerships. Among them: a towing package for $625, all-weather floor mats for $255, crossbars for $395, black running boards for $799, and an auto-dimming power-folding rearview mirror for $390.

The transition to a new platform and powertrains for the Telluride is a logical step in the context of the general automotive trend. Many manufacturers are abandoning large naturally aspirated engines in favor of smaller, turbocharged ones that provide better torque and often better fuel economy. The price increase, although present, is accompanied by significant technical updates. The appearance of a hybrid version expands the model’s audience, offering an alternative for those who value both dynamics and efficiency. The wide choice of trims allows Kia to compete in various price segments, from relatively affordable to premium versions.
