Automakers across the United States are trying to revive interest in their electric vehicles as the federal $7,500 tax credit fades into the rearview. The loss of this incentive has forced many brands to seek new ways to attract buyers, and Kia’s approach is quite simple: slash prices sharply.

The company is offering discounts of up to $10,000 on several models, although the numbers suggest this hasn’t had the desired effect yet. At least, not so far.
Kia announced last month that the 2025 Niro EV, 2025 EV6, and 2026 EV9 would be available with a $10,000 customer bonus. For the Niro EV, this represents roughly a 24 percent discount on the base model. However, despite aggressive pricing, sales remain significantly below the level seen when the tax credit was still in effect.
Discounts Without a Recall
Last month, Kia sold 918 units of the three-row EV9, nearly triple the sales of the Hyundai Ioniq 9 for the same period, but significantly fewer than the 2,155 sold in November 2024. Year-to-date sales have also fallen by 30% from 20,066 to just 14,032.
A similar situation exists with the EV6. Despite a comprehensive refresh, sales plummeted from 1,887 in November 2024 to just 603 this year. Total sales for 2025 now stand at 12,188, down 38% from 19,604 for the same period in 2024.

SCROLL
Kia does not disclose sales by powertrain type for the Niro model, which in the U.S. is sold with internal combustion, hybrid, and electric powertrains. We know that total Niro sales surged from 1,624 in November 2024 to 5,230 last month.
On Track for a Sales Record
Despite the lackluster performance of its electric lineup, Kia’s overall sales tell a different story. In November, 72,002 vehicles were delivered, three percent more than the 70,107 a year earlier.
The brand has already sold 777,152 vehicles in 2025 and has every chance to set its third consecutive annual sales record. Growth has been partly driven by a 64% jump in K5 sales, a 13% increase in Sportage deliveries, and an 8% rise in Telluride sales.
