The number of Ford vehicle recalls is rapidly increasing this year, and it’s only June

Ford sets a record for the number of recalls in 2025

In 2025, Ford has already announced 81 vehicle recalls, which exceeds the total number for the entire year of 2024. The largest recall concerns 1.1 million vehicles, mostly due to issues with rearview cameras. The average number of vehicles involved in each case is over 50 thousand.

Assembly quality is a key indicator for automakers, and such a number of recalls raises questions. In the first 172 days of 2025, Ford announced recalls on average every 2.12 days, affecting over 4 million vehicles. For comparison, in 2024 there were 67 recalls, which affected 4.77 million cars.

Main issues

Most recalls are related to the electrical system, specifically battery malfunctions and camera problems. One case involved 492 thousand vehicles in which the body pillar trim could detach. The company also recalled nearly 200 thousand cars in the US and another 100 thousand in other markets due to faulty door handles.

If there is a positive aspect, it is that 14 recalls concerned fewer than 100 vehicles, indicating prompt problem detection.

Is this a sign of quality or vigilance?

Frequent recalls can be interpreted in two ways: either Ford is not controlling quality properly, or the company is extremely thorough in correcting even minor defects. Perhaps it is a combination of both factors.

Currently, Ford leads in the number of recalls among automakers. Following it are Forest River (18 recalls), Volkswagen Group and Stellantis (15 each), Mercedes (13), Honda-Acura and General Motors (12 each).

Although the number of recalls is concerning, the company’s active actions may indicate a desire to improve quality in the long term. It is important that this trend does not turn into a permanent problem, as it could affect consumer trust in the brand. For now, it remains to be seen whether Ford can reduce the number of technical problems in future models.
