Cinematic Pontiac Couldn’t Stand the Test of Time Like Its Legendary Driver

Unique Pontiac from the Silver Screen Now for Sale

Buying a car that starred in your favorite movie can be an expensive pleasure. However, for a price that is only 2.5% of the cost of the legendary Mustang from “Bullitt”, you can become the owner of this unique Pontiac.

This car was created for the second installment of the “XXX” franchise, which, unlike the first and third parts with Vin Diesel, featured Samuel L. Jackson in the lead role. As critics noted, the film was so simple that “Road Runner cartoons looked like National Geographic documentaries next to it”.

Jackson drove a modified Pontiac GTO, which differed from Diesel’s more classic version with mid-2000s modern trends: color-changing paint, 22-inch wheels, and even rockets hidden behind the headlights.

Technical Features and History

Five such cars were built for filming and promotion. Although the car has a GTO badge, by VIN it is a Pontiac Le Mans – a more affordable version based on the Pontiac Tempest. By 1967, both models were already positioned separately, but using a real GTO for custom modifications would have been wasteful.

Original details, such as the Le Mans taillights and ventilation holes, were almost completely removed during the modifications. Under the hood is a modern fuel-injected V8 engine, and the interior is redesigned with a strange digital display that looks comical against the backdrop of modern technology.

This Pontiac can now be purchased for $94,900 in New York. For comparison, a more classic GTO from the first “XXX” film is selling for $15,000 less. Although this model is not as iconic as some other movie cars, its history and unique design make it an interesting specimen for collectors. If not for a limited budget, which movie car would you choose for your garage?
