The high price is explained by the extreme rarity of the modification. This is the high-performance Hemi version with a convertible top, the details of which were published by the auction house Mecum. In terms of cost, this specimen has approached the level of modern hypercars like the Bugatti Chiron.

The Plymouth Barracuda Hemi convertible is considered the most expensive American-made muscle car. In 1971, only 11 such soft-top cars were produced, which secured the model’s status as a collectible rarity. The limited production run was the key factor in the price.

The car is well-preserved and has seen almost no use over the decades. Over 55 years, it has covered about 50,000 km. In 2003, the muscle car underwent a complete restoration and has since remained in a private collection.

Under the hood is a 7.0-liter V8 Hemi engine producing 425 horsepower, paired with a 3-speed automatic transmission. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 5.8 seconds, and the top speed reaches 240 km/h.

The model is equipped with power steering and a limited-slip differential. This same specimen appeared at auction about ten years ago, when it was sold for $2.3 million, highlighting the steady increase in value of rare Hemi Barracudas.
