Classic Chevrolet Off-Roader Loses Off-Road Capabilities in Favor of Urban Power

Velocity Restoration Lowers K5 Blazer on a New Chassis

Restored Chevrolet K5 Blazers are not a new phenomenon. Owners who want their K5 to stand out usually update it with a modern powertrain and improved suspension components, often enhancing its off-road qualities. However, this 1972 K5 Blazer from Velocity Restorations chooses a slightly different path.

Complete Rebuild on a Modern Chassis

The vehicle was completely rebuilt from the ground up on a Roadster Shop Spec chassis and belongs to Velocity’s Street Series lineup. This means serious changes to the suspension, which cause the vehicle to sit significantly lower than the original Blazer, radically altering its appearance.

Elegant Exterior with Accents

The exterior is painted in China Gray, which is very reminiscent of the famous Audi Nardo Gray but is slightly darker. Unlike many other restored K5s with a fabric top, this model received a matte black hardtop. Many black details also appeared: a new bumper and grille, rearview mirrors, door handles, emblems, and 18-inch Forgeline wheels. The rear bumper and taillight bezels are also executed in black.

Modern Power, Classic Look

Under the hood now works a 6.2-liter GM LT1 V8 engine producing 460 horsepower, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. A custom sport exhaust system with Borla mufflers is responsible for the characteristic sound. Power is delivered only to the rear wheels, which should make driving this K5 very exciting. Modern brakes from Wilwood are also installed.

Updated Interior with Modern Technology

It’s impossible to imagine such a project without a complete interior update. Velocity upholstered the interior with new premium-quality leather, installed Dakota Digital gauges, a modern multimedia system with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto, as well as a Focal audio system.

The Cost of High-Quality Restoration

An official price for this specific car is not named, however, restored K5 Blazers from Velocity Restorations are rarely cheap. The company’s similar projects typically start at $275,000 and can exceed $300,000 depending on chosen options and the degree of customization.

Similar projects demonstrate how classic automotive design can receive a new life thanks to modern technology. Changing the concept from an off-roader to a low-slung sports car reveals a completely different potential of the model, making it attractive to a new audience. The cost of such transformations only emphasizes that we are talking about creating a unique, almost bespoke product, where every detail is thought out to achieve a certain aesthetic and technical ideal.
