Former McLaren and Alpine Executives Join Ex-Tesla Specialists to Create Electric Roadster Ahead of Musk’s Company

British Startup Longbow is Developing Electric Sports Cars

The British electric vehicle company Longbow has recruited several renowned automotive industry experts to its team. Among them are former McLaren CEO Mike Flewitt, ex-Lotus Europe head Dan Balmer, and Michael van der Sande, who worked at Lucid Europe and Alpine. Together, they will help the startup realize its plans to launch two electric sports cars by 2027.

The first model will be the Speedster — a two-seater, rear-wheel-drive electric vehicle without a windshield. Its weight will be only 895 kg, and it will accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds. The second model, the Roadster, will feature a removable roof and will be somewhat heavier, but still significantly lighter than most modern electric cars. The price will start from $84,000.

Experienced Advisors

Longbow’s engineers aim to create cars focused on the driving experience and lightness. Mike Flewitt, who once rejected the idea of an SUV for McLaren, highly appreciated the company’s approach:

This is a compact sports car, focused on the drive, with a good weight. Such characteristics are gradually disappearing in the modern industry, so seeing a startup with advanced technologies and these qualities is truly unusual.

According to Longbow founder Daniel Davey, the experience of the new advisors will help avoid mistakes and accelerate development. The company plans to start production in the UK in three years, offering an alternative to the delayed Tesla Roadster project. Lightness, dynamics, and an affordable price could make their cars interesting for sports car enthusiasts.
