Compact Nissan Car Hides Unexpected Features in Its Miniature Boxy Design

Updated Nissan Roox: More Space and Technology

Nissan has introduced the fourth generation of its compact Roox car, which is sold exclusively in Japan. The model received an updated design and a number of new features, making it even more attractive to Kei-car enthusiasts worldwide thanks to its cubistic appearance.

Exterior and Practicality

Like many other Kei-cars, the Roox is designed for maximum interior space while adhering to local size regulations. Although the overall shape remains similar to the previous model, Nissan has completely updated the front end with new headlights and an LED strip that wraps around the body. The side panels are also new, but the rear sliding doors, whose practicality is time-tested, have been retained.

Interior and Technology

The cabin has grown by 4.5 inches (115 mm), allowing it to comfortably seat four adults. The rear seats can slide up to 12.5 inches (320 mm), improving practicality, and the trunk can now hold up to four 48-liter suitcases. Furthermore, this is the most technologically advanced version of the Roox: it is equipped with a 12.3-inch multimedia system screen, the largest among all Kei-cars, as well as an intelligent monitoring system with a “virtual hood” function that facilitates obstacle detection.

Safety and Personalization

The model also has a standard 3D surround-view monitoring system, Nissan ProPILOT system, intelligent emergency braking, blind spot warning, and rear cross-traffic alert. Buyers can choose from 17 color options, including six two-tone and seven monochrome, for the standard and sporty Highway STAR version.

Price and Technical Details

The price of the updated Roox starts from 1.6 million yen (approximately $10,760). Although detailed technical specifications will be announced later, the model is expected to retain the same 658cc engine producing 52 hp and 44 lb-ft (60 Nm) of torque.

This updated version of the Roox demonstrates how even in the compact segment, space, technology, and safety can be combined, making it an ideal choice for urban environments. The growing popularity of such cars in Japan could influence global trends, especially in the context of urbanization and the need for eco-friendly solutions.
