The Company That Owns Land Rover Creates a Compact Version of Defender

New SUV from Tata Motors

Indian automaker Tata Motors is preparing to launch a new compact SUV named Sierra. The model will be available in gasoline, diesel, and electric versions, with the latter having a range of up to 500 km. The car’s design resembles a Land Rover thanks to its square shapes, floating roof, and massive bumpers.

Key features include:

Design and Technology

The Sierra concept was first shown at the Delhi Auto Expo 2023, and the production version has retained most of the original features. The car received hidden headlights, full-size LED taillights, and massive wheel arches. The interior is expected to feature ventilated seats, a panoramic roof, and advanced multimedia systems.

“It can be called a miniature Defender, and that would be quite fair” – experts note regarding the design of the new model.

Market Prospects

Initially, the Sierra will only be available in India, where it will compete with the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos models. The manufacturer does not yet plan global sales, although the compact SUV market in Europe and North America could be promising for such a car. The price of the electric version is expected to start from $20,000.

In recent years, Tata Motors has significantly increased investments in electric vehicles, offering some of the most affordable models in the world. The new Sierra could be the next step in this strategy, combining modern design with an affordable price. Particular interest is raised by the platform, which allows for the production of different versions of the car – from traditional internal combustion engines to full-fledged electric cars.
