Concept from a GM Intern: A Modern Hummer
General Motors has introduced a new Hummer concept developed by an intern. It is a rugged electric off-roader that resembles the Hummer HX concept. The design successfully combines classic Hummer features with futuristic elements.
GM Interns Showcase Talent
The school year has begun, but GM Design continues to highlight projects from its interns. One such project is the impressive GMC Hummer HEV Peak concept, created by Sun Hao, which was recently featured on the company’s Instagram page.
The intern from GM China developed a futuristic two-door off-roader that would likely compete with the Ford Bronco and Jeep Wrangler. Essentially, it is a modern version of the Hummer HX concept that debuted at the 2008 North American International Auto Show.
Exterior Appearance and Design
The concept features a familiar front end inspired by modern GMC Hummer EV models. The model is also equipped with a vertical windshield, stylized fenders, and a flat roof.
Additionally, the vehicle has stylish wheels and an angular rear end without windows, complemented by a robust rear bumper and a thin light bar.
Particularly noteworthy are the unique doors, which appear to be fully glass. However, this is an illusion, as interior images show two different configurations: one has traditional lower door panels, while the other features a central beam with glass on the top and bottom.
Interior: Minimalism and Technology
The concept’s interior is minimalist and high-tech. It features an oval steering wheel with an integrated display, as well as a second widescreen display located on the dashboard, which likely serves the functions of an infotainment system and a passenger display.
Future of the Concept
The Hummer HEV Peak concept certainly looks cool and has already transitioned from computer screens to a scale model. It has received much praise online, and hopefully, this attention will prompt GMC to consider expanding the Hummer lineup with more affordable models.
This project underscores how important internship programs are for discovering new talent in the automotive industry. Innovations proposed by young designers often become the foundation for future production models, making such initiatives key to brand progress. Furthermore, the growing competition in the electric off-road vehicle market may encourage manufacturers to create more diverse products aimed at different target audiences.
