Scout Explorer Concept Reimagines the Purpose of an SUV’s Rear End

Scout Traveler Pacific Mist Concept Hints at the Brand’s Future

Scout has provided a more detailed look at the Traveler Pacific Mist concept, a reimagined version of the model first shown at the Los Angeles Auto Show last year.

This version is called a “reboot of the theme.” It features a unique Pacific Mist paint job developed in-house by the company. This multi-layer coating with a three-stage application changes its hue depending on the lighting. As Scout explained, on a gloomy day the vehicle looks silvery, while in sunlight it takes on a blue tint.

The color was inspired by the California coastline, and Scout’s Director of Color, Materials, and Finish Design, Eileen Barraza, said it recreates “the mist rising as waves crash against the rocks of the Pacific Coast.”

Exterior and a New Approach to the Rear

The concept also received unique 22-inch black wheels, 35-inch BFGoodrich T/A KO3 off-road tires, black door handles, and a contrasting black roof.

Designers installed a roof rack and also developed a new rear carrier that replaced the traditional spare tire. This element, called the “Backpack,” has two compartments for storing items that can be dry or wet. This accessory looks interesting, and Scout hinted that it could go into series production, as “all of these updates are a sneak peek at what lies ahead.”

Interior and Potential for Future Versions

The interior features stylish trim with brown leather seats and accents inspired by denim fabric. These are complemented by a two-tone steering wheel, metal inserts, and a folding Cabana Top roof.

Although the concept seems familiar, Scout stated that it “demonstrates what future trims could look like – special color palettes, trim packages, systems, and accessories created for specific use-case scenarios.” Essentially, it’s a hint at what a possible special edition might look like in the future.

Technical Features

Scout does not provide detailed technical specifications, but it is visible that the concept is equipped with a Harvester hybrid powertrain with extended range. The addition of the engine allows the SUV to cover over 500 miles (805 km) without recharging.

The appearance of concepts like the Traveler Pacific Mist indicates an active phase of development for the Scout brand, which is preparing to enter the market. The emphasis on modularity, unique paint jobs, and practical accessories like the rear “Backpack” points to a desire to create not just a vehicle, but a holistic product for a specific lifestyle. This could be an attempt to stand out in the crowded electric SUV market by offering customers a greater degree of personalization and adventure readiness straight from the showroom. The success of such initiatives often depends on how quickly and effectively these conceptual ideas can be implemented in production vehicles.
