Skoda Vision O Concept Demonstrates an Octavia Estate That Will Make You Forget About Crossovers

Premiere of the Skoda Vision O Electric Concept

At the auto show in Munich, Skoda presented the Vision O electric concept car in the body of a compact estate. If you ignore the rear doors, which open against the direction of travel, we are looking at the future Octavia. This model, which is a “relative” of the future Volkswagen ID. Golf, will be built on the VW SSP platform.

Return to Classics

Despite Skoda actively developing the SUV segment, the brand has not forgotten about traditional estates, as indicated by the Vision O concept. The low, compact car suggests the release of a production Octavia by 2028, which is closely related to the future electric Golf.

Like the ID. Golf, the Octavia will switch to electric power, and the Vision O’s long roofline suggests the model will be available as a practical estate and a fastback. Why does Skoda continue to work on these models in the era of SUV dominance? Because the current Octavia is the brand’s most popular model and its main source of income.

Modern Design

Skoda designers applied the new Modern Solid design language to the Vision O. Although some elements, such as the rear doors or 3D-printed headrests, are exclusively show attributes, overall the concept reflects what we will see in showrooms in three years.

The prominent B-pillar, which continues the line of the rear doors, is reminiscent of solutions from DS Automobiles, while the square shapes are reminiscent of the Opel Astra. Rounded fenders, a darkened C-pillar, a concave rear end with LED-lit logo, and an aggressive front end make the Vision O more expressive than any production Octavia.

Technological Interior

If the Vision O looks confident on the outside, the interior is even more premium. Instead of a traditional instrument panel, there is a 1.2-meter Horizon Display that stretches almost the entire width of the car near the windshield.

It is complemented by a portrait-format touchscreen that “floats” above the dashboard, as well as a console with two charging stations and a rotary controller with tactile feedback. For those who don’t want to turn the knob, the Laura AI voice assistant can perform some tasks.

Space and Practicality

The concept is 4,850 mm long, which is 152 mm more than the current Octavia, but still less than the flagship Superb. The large trunk holds 650 liters of cargo space, and the practicality doesn’t end there: the concept is equipped with a portable Bluetooth speaker, a built-in refrigerator, and four umbrellas.

The Future of the Octavia EV

Skoda has not yet revealed which of these features will be included in the production version of 2027-2028, nor what performance and range indicators the SSP platform will provide. 800-volt charging technology and advanced software developed in collaboration with Rivian are expected. The appearance of a powerful vRS version with an even more aggressive character can also be expected.

The electrification of the Octavia is an important step for Skoda, which is trying to preserve its identity while adapting to new trends. The use of the SSP platform and possible collaboration with Rivian indicate the seriousness of the brand’s intentions to compete in the electric vehicle market. Preserving the estate body also emphasizes the attention to practicality, which has always been one of Skoda’s strengths.
